Writing books...

  • Mood:
  • Weather: cold and dreary
  • Reading aloud: The Hobbit

The boys' language workbooks are asking them to do more writing on their own recently, which is kind of fun for me.  It also gives opportunity to correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc.  On Tuesday, I read a short story about Abraham Lincoln, and then the boys were to write their own "books" about him.  I had to post them here.  I thought they were so good!  They each included all the facts in different ways.  We did correct most of the spelling (not all) together, but otherwise I'm posting them exactly as written....with capitalization mistakes and all.  Enjoy!

"Abraham Lincoln became president"  by David Hoffland

Abraham Lincoln was borne in a log cabin in Kentucky.  Abraham Lincoln grew up working in a store very honestly.  He became a lawyer and people loved Him so much that He became the 16th President.  He was watching a play and He died.  all the people made a book.

The End

And now for Johnny's:

"The 16th president"  by Johnny hoffland

Abraham Lincoln was born in a Log cabin in Kentucky.  He Loved reading.  His favorite book was the Bible.  He became a clerk.  He was honest and brave.  He became President.  He was on the north side of the war.  He died in a play.

The End

Weren't those cute?  They seem so short when typed out here, but it was a full page of writing for them.  They were so focused and excited to work on their own books.  It folded up then, and they wrote the title on the front and colored a picture of a log cabin on the back.  Something for me to save!
